Система регистрации каждой операции, связанной с движением запасов; это позволяет получать информацию о наличных запасах в любой момент. При использовании непрерывной инвентаризации стоимость реализации определяется как сумма всех расходов запасов со склада за период.
В российской практике применяется похожий метод - количественно-стоимостной метод учета товаров (называемый также учетом по покупным ценам), когда бухгалтерия следит за движением товаров в течение отчетного периода (ведет аналитику).

Метод постоянного контроля запасов, в соответствии с которым бухгалтерский учет ведется по каждому элементу запаса. На одной стороне счета учитываются поставки данного элемента в запас, на другой - его расходование из запаса. Таким образом, из остатка на счете в любой момент можно получить данные о количестве единиц определенного элемента запаса или его стоимости либо и то и другое. Этот метод используется в крупных организациях, где важно контролировать размер капитала, оборачивающегося в деле в каждый данный момент. Использование указанного метода предоставляет также возможности выявления мелкого жульничества. Менее крупные организации для учета имеющихся запасов применяют ежегодную инвентаризацию запаса.
